The Fear Place
A Book Review by Room 16 Readers
The Fear Place by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor is a shocking, realistic drama that you will want to read again and again.
Set in the beautiful outback of the Colorado Rockies, twelve year old Doug Grillo is on an annual research expedition with his family. Unfortunately, a family emergency occurs, and his parents leave Doug and his older brother Gordon alone in the wilderness. After a skirmish with Doug, Gordon storms off to camp alone at Comanche Peak, past a place Doug calls “the fear place.” Doug relishes the peace and quiet at first, and he even encounters a cougar he names Charlie. Then, after a few days, Doug becomes worried about his brother. In order to check on Gordon, though, Doug knows he has to face his fears and climb past the narrow ledge 600 feet in the air. Will Doug conquer his fears? Will he find his brother? Read this wildly suspenseful book to find out!
